March 2006 News

March 15,2006 -

It's Patch Day once again!  Servers will be down until about 3 PM ET for this month's patch, "Down Twisting Paths".  You can find the additional teaser images, the teaser article, and the Letter to the Players up on the boards.  I'll be adding the Rollout Article and the Dev Notes when they are published.  I've also added a link to an article detailing PK and PKL changes being added this month.  Of the changes, the one that will affect the non-PK community the most is that Missile characters will now have a new option in how their projectiles travel.  Archers will be able to select to 'lead' their missile attacks, just like they do now - aiming where the target should be - or to use 'fast' missiles.  Fast missiles will aim where the target is now, not where it will be, and those projectiles will travel noticeably faster than standard 'lead' attacks.  Other minor changes include increased damage to quest-generated PK weapons (Hollows, Weeping Weapons, etc) and methods to increase the damage loot-generated weapons do in PK combat.  If you've been thinking about going PK (especially as an archer!), this month might be the time!

I have successfully fixed the Quest Database (well, almost)!  The actual function works again as it used to, but there is a small cosmetic problem with the results.  The fields with true/false responses (ie, Lockpick, ToD, Soloable) used to display a checkbox instead of text.  Honestly, I forget how I originally encoded that little feature and it was evidently lost in the transfer (or I accidentally changed it without noticing).  If any of you happen to know how to replace true/falses with images in ASP, please email me.  I've also added a few new quest guides and updated a few more, now that ACMaps has published a few new maps.

Last but not least, welcome back, Kharasan and Kalimar!  Both are now back under the PoA banner.  Always good to have old friends return to the fold.

Most of March's teaser images are up - Maggie's site and AC Stratics have supposedly received their images but haven't taken the time to actually post them.  AC Mystics's (Here and Here), AC Vault's (Here and Here), and CoD's images (Here and Here) are up, at least.  It looks like the army Elysa was fielding in Plateau Village has met with a disastrous fate!  It also appears that we've been compromised by the Shadows.  Be on your guard - sinister events are coming...

In other news, I've uncovered more bugs popping up as a result of the migration.  I've 'fixed' a bug that appeared in the PM system (much in the same way you 'fix' a pet...), but the problem with the Quest Database is a bigger problem.  I don't expect to have that up and running any time soon, unfortunately.  If you do find more problems with the site or, more likely, the forums, email or PM me and I'll get to work.

Good work on last weekend's quests.  We had great PoA turnout and the PoA people who needed the quest rewards got them.  I don't have anything specifically planned for this weekend as I have some business of my own to take care of, but when I am around, I'm more than willing to lead impromptu quests, provided we have the numbers.  An 80+ Gaerlan trip would be fun, I think.  Next weekend (3/11 and 3/12) I'll be running two Harbinger trips (as Gyes and June).  If you are on my timer, as many of you are, now's the time to start looking for your item.  I have a decent stock of many different Harby trophies, but supplies are limited, so you must act now!  Check out the Harby Quest Guide for specifics.
