November 2005 News

November 27, 2005 -

I hope all of you had good Thanksgivings.  Mine certainly was zany.

Elyria has been so kind as to compile some quest guides for newbie quests.  If you had noticed, I didn't include them in the Quest Section mostly because I don't have a character who could do them.  Look for Greenmire Grave, Shoushi Starter Quests, and Holtburg Starter Quests soon!

A quick status update on questing for the rest of the year - my Harbinger timers on June and Gyes will be up by the second weekend in December, so I will definitely be running two trips.  Expect one Saturday and one Sunday at differing times.  Getting the right Harby item is a pain, so you might want to start looking now if you want to join me.  June's Augmentation timer will be up by next weekend, so I will probably run a semi-private run through that quest for PoA and friends.  My main goal, however, will be to run all 6 Burun Kings over a weekend.  Those quests are a major undertaking (especially Browerk) and I'm not sure how possible running that many hard quests in such a short timeframe will be.  I might have to spread it out over two weekends.  Watch the boards for specifics on all the upcoming quests!

An early Happy Thanksgiving to all!  I hope all of you have a good holiday.  Like most of you, I will be out of town Wednesday and Thursday, but I will be back Friday (although I might not be on too much that day).  I've scheduled an Augmentation trip this Saturday (11/26) - hope you can make it.

November's quest listing is up in the Quest Section.  I've actually completed 3 of the 4 guides this month!  Thanks to Ci and others who have helped me out with the images I am missing.  That listing is still up on the site HERE.  I've also knocked off several more quest guides, leaving me with roughly 30 to go.

Two quick notes - Account Migration will permanently end December 6th and Free Rent will end December 31st.  Free months for Katrina victims ends the 31st too.  The mansion is well stocked for rent until sometime during the summer of 2006, so don't worry about that!  If you have old accounts that might want to play again at some point, now is the time to migrate!

Patch Day is once again upon us!  The Teaser, Letter to the Players, Rollout Article, and Dev Notes are all up.  I'll be updating the quest section as soon as I get a reliably thorough listing of this month's new (and revised) quests.

Be careful if you frequent Glendon Wood!  The town has been attacked and is partially ablaze.  Also be wary if you enter Cragstone, Zaikhal, or Arwic's meeting halls.  Part of the Glendon Wood quests involve these halls and have the unfortunate side effect of spawning large groups of nasty Viamontian Knights inside.

Also new this month are 3 more beer recipes - now you can have +50 attribute buffs for each of the 6 attributes.  The key ingredient is some sort of Moarsman goo.  When I have a chance, I'll be brewing up a large batch for general use.  If you want some for yourself, let me know and I'll make you your own supply.  I haven't found a reliable source of mystery Moarsman goo yet, however.

Great work on last weekend's quests!  We had very good turn-out and although we had our share of people who couldn't follow directions, all of you who showed up were very helpful and completed your quests successfully.  I know I won't be able to run any quests this Saturday, but I might be able to set something up for later in the afternoon Sunday.  If you have a request, please post on the site.

I sat down today and made the changes I wanted to make to the quest database.  Originally, I had set up the level filter to return results greater than or equal to the input (which seemed right at the time).  In retrospect, it made more sense to me to switch it to less than or equal to the input, so you could put your level into the box and see quests you could actually do.  Also, when I originally made the database itself, the level req field was set up as a text field instead of a number field, which made the Booleans function incorrectly.  I have fixed that problem and now the levels will be filtered in a way that makes sense.  I am still considering adding another filter - groupability - to the database, but that's low on my list of priorities.

I am down to 40 quests that don't have guides.  There are currently just under 200 entries in the quest database (although some call the same quest guide - Olthoi pincers and Tusker tusks, for instance), so I've made a lot of progress.  I also drew up a list of quest items that need an image.  That list is posted on the forums HERE.  Some of the items I need are easy and I will be redoing the quests to take some pictures, but some are going to be a pain (such as a few Caul Boss monster rewards) and some are impossible for me to collect because of the choices my characters have made (Callous Heart, Viamontian Loyalist quests).  If you happen to have any of the items I am looking for, I'd appreciate it if you'd send me an image.  All I'm looking for is the ID panel's display - I'm not really interested in what the item looks like when wielded.

I will be busy most of Saturday again, so I don't think I'll be able to plan any quests.  I know some of you do want to get Augmentations - I'm going to nail down a time as soon as I know when all of your timers are up.

October's patch was a bit light on quests, but I've added the two known quests to the quest list.  I don't expect the Majestic Pumpkin to stay around for more than a month and the maps for the Archeology quest aren't complete yet, so actual guides will be up soon.

In the meantime, I've been working on the rest of the quest section.  I was a bit lax in collecting images, but I've started gathered as many as I can.  There are some items that I cannot get because of my characters' in-game choices (Callous Heart and the Viamontian Loyalist quests, for instance), so I may ask for submissions soon.  I'm also working on finishing off the rest of the quest guides for the quest list and I'm considering making some cosmetic changes to the quest database.

Somewhat belated welcome backs go out to Jerrek and Etrican, both of whom are returning to PoA in AC after extended absences.  Glad to have you two back!
