Sanguinary Aegis

The Aegis used to be the symbol of the Advocates and Sentinels, the old volunteer corps who kept Dereth running smoothly in the olden days.  They may be gone, but their shields still remain and have taken on a new role in protecting Dereth from its enemies.

Step 1:  Chorizite.  Before you get your Aegis, you will need to pick up and refine some high-grade Chorizite ore from the Lugian Excavation.  Once you have your refined ore, take it to Martine's Retreat and give it to Leandra, the Retreat's alchemist.  She will alter it into a Chorizite Formula.  Hang on to this for now.

Step 2:  Abandoned Armory.  Now it's time to recover an Aegis, which means you need to visit the Armory.  This dungeon is located on the southern landbridge at 83.6S 14.7W.  The fastest way is to either take the Lesser Direlands portal device from the Burun Kings quest or to run from the Landbridge Villas settlement out of Qalabar.  It's a bit of a hike either way.  You might as well buff before you get started - you'll be fighting Undead and a couple Fire Wisps, so you'll want to put up all protects.  Impen should be sufficient for banes.  Since you will be fighting a few wisps, slashing would be the ideal damage type.  When you enter the dungeon, you will want to head straight ahead from the drop into a large room filled with Undead.  There are two exits at the very end of the room - pick one and follow it down into another large room.  You will find two lever-controlled doors to the north and south and a small enclosure in the middle of the room.  Enter that enclosure and kill the monsters inside.  There are pressure plates on the floor - in the NE and SW corners.  Hit them and then head through either of the lever doors, which quickly lead to Y intersections.  Again, pick either path and you will come to another large room with an enclosure.  Again, run around the enclosed room to hit a pressure plate that controls the exit from this room.  You will then head down a staircase to another large room, this time with an exit portal in addition to an enclosure.  Again, run around the enclosure to open the lever door.  You will come to a Y intersection shortly - take the south exit and head down a ramp to the final room.  Kill the monsters in this room and you will find the Aegises on the ground in the far end of the room.  There are 5 colors, all of which have the same properties, so pick your favorite color.  Once you have your shield, recall out.

Step 3:  Rewards.  Use your Chorizite Formula on the Deteriorated Aegis and you will create a Sanguinary Aegis.  This shield has no armor level and cannot be buffed, but it does have a very potent special property - Magic Absorbing.  When you wield the Aegis, the damage done to you by War Magic will be reduced.  Exactly how much reduction is determined by your skills (which one, I'm not sure.  Definitely a defense skill and most likely magic defense).
