Pets are finally functional instead of purely decorative! A new pair of Masonry Golems appeared in the Osteth Hall of Metos, ready to help you create your own little assistant. As of now, your choices are limited to Alchemy, Cooking, Lockpicking, and Fletching, but if you have any of those skills, you will find this quest definitely worth the effort.
Step 1: Preparation. This quest can (and likely will) take you a very long time to complete, primarily because one of the key ingredients is located in Golem Sanctum, a section of the randomly-appearing Floating City. Occasionally, the Floating City will be randomized so that it is impossible to make it through the dungeons into the Golem Sanctum, forcing you to find a Golem Sanctum portal on the landscape. Your best bet is to get a group of people who want to do the quest together and fan out. Another important thing to do prior to the quest is to track down a rare gem for the skill you want to use. The final skill check is ricidulously hard - with a rare and majors, Gyes got his Lockpick skill up to 676 and he still only had a 90% chance of success with the final step. Without a rare, I don't see how you can even hope to have a shot at completing your golem pet. Also be sure you have 150,000 pyreals, either in notes or coins, when you go to buy your sigils.
*NOTE!* This quest is set up in such a fashion that your trademule will have to do a little light questing. The Golem Pieces are attuned and bonded, so they may not be given away, but the Imprinting Motes and Sigils are not attuned. Your trademule must complete steps 2 and 4, but you may send in your main character to track down the imprinting motes in step 3.
Step 2: Golem Pieces. Your golem pet is made from three blocks. If you like, head to the Osteth Hall of Metos, which is located at 4.4S 0.6W, south of Midsong Settlement out of Al Jalima. Go to the bottom and you will see three NPC Masonry Golems. The one of the right sells instructions on where the golem pieces may be found, but that is an unnecessary step. Two of the three pieces are found in quest dungeons - Colier Mines and the Mines of Despair. Both of those dungeons require keys and the Mines of Despair require lockpick, so you may need to get a friend to help out. Refer to the quest guides for specifics - Colier Mines can be particularly difficult if you don't know what you're doing. The first two stones are located in the Baron's room and with the Lich Overseer respectively. The final stone is located in the Arwic Mines, not to be confused with Subway. Refer to the map - the stones are located all over the place on the floor labeled -6. To get there, begin by heading forward into a large room. Follow the right wall and take the first exit, which leads into a second big room. Keep to the right wall and open the first door you see. Follow the path down a ramp into another large room. Find the door on the left wall and head in. Take your first right and go down the ramp. Proceed straight through the first four-way intersection, through a door, and then turn left at the second four-way. Follow that left with a quick right into a small room. Look for an exit on the far wall leading down. Now hug the left wall the rest of the way - there are a couple very short dead ends. Keep going down and start scanning the floor for stones. Grab one and then head home.
Step 3: Imprinting Motes. Time to break out your main character if you were running a trademule up to this point. You now need to track down up to three imprinting motes to power up your golem. The first mote is located in Golem Sanctum, which has a 25+ restriction. This dungeon can be found as a random portal on the landscape or it can be found inside the Floating City, which is also a random landscape portal. Be aware that Floating City is sometimes broken in that it is impossible to get through its random portals to the Golem Sanctum portal (like in February 2007 when the quest came out). Either way, Floating City and Golem Sanctum portals are most common in the deserts north of Samsur. I recommend running due north from Samsur to about 0 N/S and then heading east. When you reach the fringe of the desert, go north 1 degree or so and then head back west. Repeat as necessary. When you finally find a Golem Sanctum portal, hug the left wall once you pass the Mu-Miyahs and then start scanning the floor. The motes are very close to the entrance. The second two motes are also found in quest dungeons, specifically the Extreme Crystal Mine dungeon on the Gift Boxes quest and the Ancient Masonry on the Essence Invasion quest. The motes are found in the room with the Daichroic crystal chests in the Crystal Mine and in the very last room of the Ancient Masonry, past the room with the imbuing glyph (which you might as well pick up while you are there). When you have collected your motes, head home.
Step 4: Completing your Pet. Make sure whichever character is making the golem has all 3 golem pieces and imprinting motes, as well as your rare if you have one and whatever other buffing gear you have. Now head for the Osteth Hall of Metos. Jump the eastern Acid Pit - make sure your trademule isn't too burdened to make the jump - and continue to the very end, where you will find a trio of Masonry Golems. Kill the Obsidian Golems and then talk to the righthand one. He sells sigils necessary to imprint your motes. Each costs 50k each, so I hope you remembered your money. When you have all three, it's time to imbue your motes. Start easy - the first two motes aren't too bad if you have reasonable skill. That last one is no picnic! Pop your rare and maybe even bring a friend along for a brilliance. The difficulty of the last attempt is a whopping 604, which means that even at 700 buffed skill, you will only have a 95% chance of success. Hopefully you will succeed, but if not, log yourself out, conserve that rare, and find a friend to get you another one. When you have successfully imbued all three motes, head to the left Golem. Hand him your Golem Pieces one at a time and he will give you back a blank golem when you hand in your third piece. Now show him your handiwork with the motes. Show him your Golem Sanctum mote, which he will inspect, and then use it on your blank golem. Showing him your imbued mote is a necessary step for some reason, so don't skip it! Repeat the process with your Crystal Mine mote and Ancient Masonry mote and your pet golem will power up.
Step 5: Rewards. The final pet golem is attuned and bonded, so unfortunately you will not be able to give him away or make one for another character. When you summon him, he will follow you around and periodically cast a 30 second spell on you. That spell will depend on which crafting skill you chose and how many imprinting motes you added. The best spell available is an Artisan level buff, which increases your skill by 30 points and is fully stackable with cantrips! The only trouble with the golem is that he has a hard time following you if you move much and he casts somewhat sporatically. Still, if you are a trademule, you should find this pet invaluable.
