The Viamontians have struck the mainland of Dereth!  Glendon Wood lies in ruins and the local militia is fighting for the town's life.  Join the struggle and beat back the invaders.

Step 1:  Preparation.  This quest has four level divisions, but there are no level-restricted portals.  The final fight is very difficult if you happen to be a mage, so I'd suggest bringing along a capable melee friend with you.  You will be fighting Viamontian Knights and Mages and their Eater friends, so you will want to buff slashing and lightning weapons, protect against all damage, and bane against physical and acid damage.

Step 2:  Invaders.  Head to Glendon Wood and look for Tomo Genza, who is defending one of the few remaining buildings (the smithy at 30N, 27.2E).  Greet him and he will give you the task of killing 20 of the invaders.  Unfortunately, the quest will not tell you how many you have killed or how many you need to kill, so try to keep track yourself.  While you are running around Glendon, look for a corpse in the wreckage of the Scrivener's building.  Loot a note from it, which you can give to Londigul the Ellic the Armorer to uncover who the traitor in Glendon is (fun, but not necessary to the quest).  When you think you're getting close, return to Tomo and he will reward you if you have killed all 20.  You will get several hundred thousand XP (based on level) and a Glendon Wood Militia title token.  Greet him again and he ask you to talk to Londigul for a second task.

Step 3:  Blockade.  Londigul will ask you to defeat the blockade preventing Glendon from being restocked and reinforced.  There are three blockades - one to the north, west, and east.  The specific coords are 30.3N, 25.5E; 29.2N, 29.3E; and 31.7N, 27.9E.  At these coords are 6 Blockade Guards.  There are conflicting reports of how many of these guys you need to kill to be properly flagged for advancement.  I killed the entire spawn, but some people report needing to kill just the one.  When you have killed Guards at each of the three blockades, return to Londigul and he will give you a Glendon Wood Recall orb and some more XP (up to about 6M at high levels).

Step 4:  Reinforcements.  Talk to Tomo Genza again and he will ask you to deliver a sealed note to one of four Militia Captains of different towns.  These Captains live in the Meeting halls of various towns.  If you are below level 80, you will need to go to Rithwic, below 100 characters go to Cragstone, below 130s go to Zaikhal, and 130 and above go to Arwic.  When you turn in the note to the Captain, a large attack group of Viamontians will spawn!  This is the part of the quest where Mages are heavily disadvantaged.  Aside from the other 10 Knights and Mages, there will be a Strike Force Leader.  This guy has impressive defenses, but his magic defense makes him almost untouchable to mages.  Melees too will have trouble, but not nearly as much as mages.  When he dies, loot his corpse for a Helmet.  Return with the helm to Tomo and you will receive your reward.  He will give you a good chunk of XP (32.5M at high levels) and tell you to give the helm to Londigul.  Do as he suggests and you will receive a useable version of the helmet.  If you don't have any use for the helm, give it back to Londigul for some more XP (6M at the highest level).

Step 5:  Rewards.  If you have done everything correctly, you will have earned about 40 million XP at the highest level tier, a Viamontian Helm (Knight's, Commander's, Tribune's, or Lord's), and a Glendon Wood Recall orb.  Use the orb on yourself (wield it, select its special spell, target yourself, and then use!) and you will be teleported back to Glendon Wood.  The orb is bugged, so you can turn it in for a spell of Glendon Wood Recall.
