The Virindi have always had a burning desire to 'improve' on the various creatures inhabiting Dereth.  The Olthoi are no exception.  Until the portals to Marae Lassel appeared, the Virindi had unrestricted access to the Olthoi living there and began to experiment on them inside a specially created dungeon called the Habitat.

Step 1:  Preparation.  This quest requires you to track down an elusive spawn on the Marae Lassel Plateau named The Collector.  He is an old-style Executor, meaning he is pretty much immune to non-mages.  Even with modern weapons, melees and archers will only do minimal damage to him.  However, a dedicated melee can defeat him using Life Bolts.  The Collector typically spawns in the region north of the North Fork dam - on my map, I refer to it as the Northeast Swarm.  He is a rare spawn, so it may take you quite some time to track him down.  When you do kill him, he will drop a Habitat Portal Gem.  When you have that gem, you can begin the quest in earnest.

Step 2:  Habitat.  If you want to gather a group, do so.  When you are ready to go, use your gem in a nice, flat place and then enter the summoned portal.  The far side is safe for buffing.  You will be fighting Olthoi and a couple stray Virindi, so Bludgeoning weapons are your best bet.  If you have poor melee defense, bane against physical and acid damage.  Be sure to protect against all damage types.  When you are ready, head down the ramp and proceed east until you enter a large room.  Fight the Olthoi that attack you and then look for a trio of Virindi Observers in the middle of the room, surrounded by crystals.  Kill them and if you are lucky, one of them will summon a portal to the top of the Habitat.  The rate at which they summon portals is quite low, so you will likely have to kill several waves of Olthoi and Virindi.  Ultimately one of the Virindi will summon your portal and you will be able to advance to the top of the structure.  When you do, make your way east or west and you will go down a short ramp into a room with a Mutated Olthoi (they're gold!) and a Virindi Trove.  Now you will need your lockpicker's help.  The troves are locked with a difficulty of 400 and they are laced with chorizite, so you won't be able to weaken the locks.  Pick the trove and then have each person who wants the scalpel grab both halves from the chest.  When everyone has their pieces, you can leave.

Step 3:  Rewards.  To make the completed scalpel, you will need to buff your Dagger skill - if you don't have Dagger trained or specialized, you won't be able to make your dagger.  I don't know the exact difficulty, but the completed Dagger has a 350 wield req, so you can safely assume it to be somewhere around there.  The dagger is a relic, but this is a quest that practically no one has done, so feel proud if you have made one!
