This quest for lower level Dagger or Unarmed warriors will introduce you to two of the more infamous characters in Dereth - Hamud ibn Rafik and Oswald. Hamud is the leader of the Tenebrous Edge, an elite group of assassins of the Ghurundim nation back on Ispar. Oswald is also an assassin, but he is the epitome of a mercenary - cold, calculating, and utterly amoral. This quest (like several other very old quests) is really best done solo because of an exceptionally long respawn time on one of the items.
Step 1: Dentistry. Before you can start the quest, you have to hunt Ash Gromnies (or at least find a tooth). You can find these outdoors in the ridges of the Amun Desert, inside Amperehelion Vault, or in the Carved Caves. High level characters can also find Ash Teeth on Adolescent Ash Gromnies in the Valley of Death. The teeth are giveable, so you can trade for a tooth too. When you have your tooth, take it to an Ivory Crafter. Your best bet is to find Zaikhal's Ivory Crafter, since you'll be going there anyway. Give the crafter your tooth and he will give you an Ash Tooth Dagger and a Letter of Introduction to Devana bint Hamudi. Take the letter to her at her house (12.9N, 0.4E). She will accept the letter and send you to find her father Hamud. She will give you another letter of introduction and a key to reach his chambers.
Step 2: Mountain Fortress. Hamud has exiled himself to the Mountain Fortress due south of Qalabar at 82.4S, 19.9E. Inside you will find Zefirs and Shadows, so you will want to use a slashing weapon. Higher level characters will not need to buff, but characters below 50 or so will need to protect against all damage types and bane physical if you don't have melee defense. Consult the map frequently - this dungeon is another maze that is difficult to navigate. When you start, hug the right wall, past the portal, until you find a corridor to the left. Turn left and then go straight ahead until you find a ramp leading down. You will quickly come to a four-way intersection. Turn right and head down another ramp to a T intersection. Turn right and you will come to a four-way intersection with a door blocking the north exit. Open the door and head north, down a ramp, and straight through the next intersection you see. You will wind around and head down another ramp, coming to another four-way intersection near the bottom. Turn left and then take your next right. From here on, the corridor is fairly straight. Make your way south until you find a down ramp leading back to the north. At the base of the ramp is a locked door - the key Devana gave you will unlock it. Inside is Hamud himself. Give him the letter Devana gave you and he will tell you he can make your Pyreal Katar if you bring him a Pyreal Dagger from an Empyrean Foundry. He will give you a key to that dungeon too.
Step 3: Empyrean Foundry. The Empyrean Foundry is located in the Blackmire Swamp at 25.1S, 54.2E. It is filled with Sclavi and Mosswarts, so you won't need to rebuff for this dungeon - slashing works fine and their offensive capabilities are similar to the Zefir/Shadow combination in the Mountain Fortress. Use Hamud's Key to open the first door you see. The first section of the dungeon is a lever puzzle. There are four smaller rooms attached to the large square room you have just entered and each room is sealed by a lever door. Your goal is to go through them all, one at a time, until you open the lever door at the far end of the large room. Each small room has three levers in it - two are traps while one is real. Begin with the levers in the middle of the large room, which opens the northeast lever door. Pull all three levers and you will open the lever door in the northwest. Continue working counter-clockwise until you open the door on the east wall. Move through, hit the three levers on the far side, and you will open the final lever door. You will almost immediately come to a T intersection going down a ramp. Take the north ramp down and turn right when you reach a T intersection. You will head down another series of ramps and eventually see a corridor leading down and to your right - take it. You will again come to another T intersection on a ramp. This time, take the south path and you will come to the final rooms. Use the [ and ] keys to search for an Ancient Pyreal Dagger lying on the ground and pick it up. Now comes the boring part - waiting! The dagger has an exceptionally long respawn rate, so hopefully you are doing this quest solo or with someone who doesn't want the Katar. When everyone in your group (who wants the Katar) has their daggers, you can leave.
Step 4: Back to Hamud. Return to the Mountain Fortress and make your way back down to Hamud. Give him the Ancient Dagger and he will alter it to make Hamud's Pyreal Katar. He will also give you his will for Devana. Return it to her and she will give you Oswald's Dagger, a nice lightning dagger.
