The third and most difficult quest involved in Nuhmudira's Rite is to find the Living Tome, a Falatacot book hidden deep within an Ancient Temple on the West Coast of the Dires. Fortunately, the Temple is filled with many doors, allowing melees to kill practically all the enemies safely through doors.
Step 1: Preparation. This quest doesn't really require much preparation, aside from grabbing a nearby portal. The Ancient Temple cannot be tied but is actually quite close to Mt Lethe. If everyone in your group has Mt Lethe Recall, that's the way to go. Otherwise, tie Sclavus Cathedral (33.5S, 80W). The drop into that dungeon is safe, so you can buff up in the dungeon. (If you use Mt Lethe Recall, buff before you go!) You will need to buff a fire weapon, protect against everything, and bane against slashing. When you are buffed, run to the dungeon, located inside a small structure at 33S 88W. There are a few Falatacot guarding it, so you may want to kill them to keep your group from getting stuck.
Step 2: Ancient Temple. As you can see from the map, the Temple is very large and even with a large group, it can take quite some time to fight through. If you are soloing, you will likely need to rebuff, so I will make sure to let you know when you've reached a safe point. Also bear in mind that the spawn is fast! Make sure to close the doors behind you so you don't have to fight more than one group at a time. From the drop, head down and turn either right or left at the first intersection. Kill the Falatacot and pick the door at the far end of his room. Now head down the ramp behind the closed door in the next room, heading north. The next floor has 6 small cells behind closed doors - ignore all of them but the middle cell in the south group. Kill the Falatacot in there, open the door, and then pick the lock on the far side of the room. After you head down this ramp, you will head through a series (literally dozens!) of small crypts in a linear fashion. After quite some time, you will reach a locked door guarded by a Matriarch. You will fight through a couple more rooms and then head up and over a ramp. Continue along the corridors until you pass through a room with several Matriarchs and a pair of huge stone heads. At the far end is a small corridor with locked doors on both sides. If you are low on buffs, this is a great place to rebuff - just make sure to close the doors! The next room past the small corridor has two exits - both lead to the same place, but the S path is safer. At the bottom of the S ramp is another locked door leading into a large open room. Kill through the door and then head through into the large room. There is a locked door in the lower section on the E wall. Head through and you will quickly come to a room with two exits. Take the N exit and head down a spiral stair to a Y intersection. Again, both paths lead to the same place, but the right turn is safer. Follow the corridor through a pair of crypt rooms and you will come to a final locked door. In the final room, you will find a couple free Falatacots, several trapped inside a small walled section of the room, and several more in a lower level guarding the Living Tome. Kill the free ones through the door and then head in, ignoring the ones trapped in the walled section. Have your mages take shots at the ones in the lower section, but ignore the Abbess - she has too much health to make her worth killing. When your group has killed all but the Abbess, run down the ramp into the lower section and have everyone use the Living Tome to grab a copy. When everyone has their book, run back up the ramp and take the exit portal.
Step 3: Rewards. You can use the Living Tome as is for a decoration - it's very unique looking! Otherwise, you can have it translated by the Sho Translator in Hebian-To. Unfortunately, it's untranslatable! All you will get back is the Sho Translator's apology for breaking your book. Personally, I'd rather have the Tome to look at.
