The Moarsmen, like practically every other species on Dereth, is not native to the island.  However, the Moarsmen have been on Dereth far longer than most everything else.  They come from the same homeworld as the Burun and Sclavi, but were radically altered by the Adjanites to act as their servants.  Over the years, the Moarsmen became feral, although they retained their drive to protect important religious sites.  This quest asks you to recover several Adjanite relics and tomes to learn about the origins of the Moarsmen and about the lives of the Adjanites.

Step 1:  Preparation.  This quest requires you to visit several dungeons in search of various Adjanite relics.  Each relic has two uses - it can either be used to create (or upgrade) an item or to fashion a portal gem.  Combining different numbers of relics creates portal gems of different powers.  There are a total of five portal gems to create, so if you are planning on recovering all five tomes, you will either need to do the quest 5 times or have 5 people in your fellowship.  The alternate rewards require you to sacrifice the pieces of your portal gem, so if you prefer to have these rewards, you won't be able to recover the tomes at the same time.  Also be aware that each portal gem and reward is restricted by various levels.

Step 2:  Relics.  Your first job is to head to the Vesayans and collect your relics.  There are five dungeons to visit, spread around the lower to mid-level islands in the chain.  Each dungeon is progressively harder and more complicated than the previous one, so be on your guard.  You will be fighting Moarsmen mostly, although the latter dungeons will need you to kill Mosswarts and Undead.  A slashing weapon is probably your best bet, given the other enemies.  Be sure to bane against fire and acid.  You should protect against all damage types.  When you are ready, head to Kryst via Shoushi.

Step 2a:  Mud Cave.  Your first stop is the Mud Cave, located at 79S 84.1E.  This dungeon is small and not particularly dangerous, so you should get through quickly.  Hug the right wall and you will find a passage leading down in the middle of the second large room you reach.  At the bottom of the stairs is a four-way intersection.  Scan this area and you will find an Adjanite Gem and a Labyrinthine Necklace.  Grab both and then portal recall back to the top.

Step 2b:  Moarsman Muck.  Next stop is Moarsman Muck, which can be found at 77S 90.9E.  This particular dungeon is on a small island on the eastern coast of the next island you reach from Mud Cave.  Once inside, again hug the right wall and look for a passageway in the middle of the floor.  It will again lead to a four-way intersection.  Scan the ground for an Emerald Clasp.  Grab it, portal recall, and take the surface portal.

Step 2c:  Moarsman Hideout.  Your third stop is located on the next island to the north, at 69.9S 89.9E.  This dungeon is quite a bit more complicated than the previous two, but it's also far more scenic.  From the drop, jump down and make your way out of the small room you landed in.  Head up one of the ramps at the south end of the room and head toward the middle of the next large room you enter.  There are a pair of levers at the north end of the room behind doors.  Hit the right one and then head to the east end of the large room.  The lever door there should be open.  Follow the path and you will come to a hole in the floor.  Hop down and follow the corridor mostly to the south.  You will reach a lever door - the lever is just before it.  Open it and head into another large room.  Make your way through the openings in the room and you will see another hole in the floor.  Hop in and then hug the right wall.  Eventually you will come to a small square room with an Amethyst Cradle on the floor.  Grab it and portal recall back to the top.

Step 2d:  Moarsman Laboratory.  Head to the east from the Hideout and make your way to 68.4S 94.4E, where you will find the Lab.  Turn around from the drop and jump down the pit.  Head west and make your way through the series of rooms - don't worry, it's pretty linear.  Eventually, you will find yourself in a large room with several terraces above you.  The Aquamarine Prisms you are looking for are on the northernmost terrace.  You should be able to jump up and pick them up.  If your jump isn't high enough, backtrack one room and look for a hole in the floor.  Hop down and follow the corridor until you find yourself in the terraced room again.  You should be able to leap from your terrace to the terrace with the prisms.  Again, when you have your prisms, portal recall and take the surface portal.

Step 2e:  Moarsman Spawning Ground.  The final dungeon in this section is undoubtedly the hardest and most complicated.  The Moarsmen hit hard and the Mosswarts have a habit of vulning and warring you in quick succession.  Be careful and use the walls to your advantage.  From the drop, you will want to make your way north through two four-way intersections.  After those four-ways, you will come to a pair of T intersections.  You will take a right and then a left.  Ignore the next turn off to the left and you will head down a ramp and come to a four-way.  Turn left and you will enter a stretch that is mostly linear.  You will go up a pair of spiral stairs and reach the Undead section.  Make your way to the center of the section (head northwest) and look for a hole in the floor.  I'd recommend killing anything up top before jumping to be on the safe side.  At the bottom of the pit is a maze section leading to the final relic.  The bottom of the pit is the center of a four-way intersection.  Turn so you are facing the west, go through that exit, and hug the right wall.  You shouldn't have much trouble finding your way from here on - the final relic, the Jade Dais, is located just after you pass down a ramp and to a four-way intersection.  Once you have all 6 relics, recall out.

Step 3:  The Tomes.  Now that you have all the relics, it's time to combine the pieces.  Be careful!  Whatever you do when you combine the pieces, DO NOT use the piece containing the portal gem or you will summon the portal.  Always add the relic to the portal gem, not the other way around.  The Clasp goes on the gem, then add the cradle, then the prisms, and finally the dais.  The resulting product is the Eye of the Depths, the 80+ portal gem.  To make the other gems, stop part of the way in the assembly sequence.  If you do make all 5 gems, you will end up with the unaltered Adjanite Gem (1+), a Decorated Adjanite Gem (20+), an Entrancing Adjanite Gem (40+), and a Beholding Adjanite Gem (60+).  Each gem takes you to the same dungeon, but to a different section.  There is a tome at the end of each section and you cannot travel between each section without using the correct portal gem.  Have a look at the map to see what I mean.  Each section is pretty linear, so you shouldn't have trouble finding the tome.  This last section is populated with nothing but Moarsmen (on a very fast spawn!), so you can bane and buff against acid and fire damage.  You'll want to buff a slash or frost weapon.  After you grab each tome, you should recall out instead of using the gem inside the dungeon.  Better to be safe and use your portal gem on a nice flat surface than in the dungeon.

Step 4:  Rewards.  Take your tomes to the Falatacot Translator in Hebian-To's library.  Each is worth an increasing amount of XP, totalling 5,650,000 XP for all 5.  Should you decide to get the alternate rewards instead of the portal gems, you will need to do a bit of crafting.  The Labyrinthine Necklace is complete as is, but you can add a Well-Oiled String from the Composite Bow quest (3 Ravener Guts plus Bloodseeker Oil) to the Emerald Clasp to make an Adjanite Cameo.  You can further upgrade the Cameo by crushing the Amethyst Cradle with a Mortar and Pestle into powder and then adding that powder to the Cameo.  If you show the Hebian Translator your Prisms, he will give you an Onyx Cutting Tool to allow you to fashion Adjanite Mana Stones.  Unlike regular mana stones, these stones improve your mana renewal rate by 200% for an hour when used.  The final reward is the Adjanite Crown, which you will need to remove from the Jade Dais with an Etheric Seal.  Hiro in Xarabydun will hand you a seal if you greet him.
