The Order of the Raven Hand cultists are always sticking their noses into dark places where they don't belong. This time, they have found an ancient relic of Falatacot origins. Fortunately, they haven't been able to subdue its guardian, but their activity has attracted unwanted Virindi attention...
Step 1: Gem Hunt. This is another in the series of "Rare Quest Portal Gem" quests. This time, you will need to kill hordes of Raven Hand cultists to find your gem. Unlike some of the other Rare Quest Portal Gem quests, there are large concentrations of Ravenists in close proximity to each other on Singularity Caul. There are three forts the Ravenists are holding on the Caul, as described in the Sepulcher of Nightmares quest. Pick one of those outposts and repeatedly kill everything there. The first two camps have more Ravenists than the third one, but the third one is quite a bit more manageable if you are a lower level character or you aren't a mage. Eventually you will find your portal gem - I found one on the first kill I made, so maybe you will be as lucky.
Step 2: Dark Monolith Caverns. Gather a group to enter the Caverns in a nice, accessible place like Marketplace. You will need a fairly sizeable group to attempt this quest. I recommend at least a full fellowship. When you are ready to go, use your portal gem to summon the portal. The drop is safe, so you can buff on the far side. You will need to break your group into two teams - one side will have the easy half (Virindi and Shadows), while the other group will slug it out with high-health versions of Ravenists. Break your groups up unevenly. The Ravenist section is substantially harder than the Virindi/Shadow group because mages will be able to take out the Shadows and Virindi in one shot each. The high health Ravenists will take at least a dozen shots before going down. Slashing is a decent choice for both teams. I recommend against fire because the final boss is actually a huge Fire Elemental. You could buff both a fire and frost weapon if you prefer. When everyone is buffed, send the Raven team down the left corridor and the shadow group down the right. The group that went left should hug the left wall and the group that went right should hug the right. Go as quickly as you can, but don't be reckless. The Ravenist side needs to keep moving as best they can or they will be inundated by a respawn in one of the later rooms. The third big room each group reaches will have the first of many Crystals. Take these out with ranged fire only - they attack way too fast for a melee to be able to survive long against them. The fourth big room you reach will have another group of crystals protecting a lever door and a lever. Kill the crystals and then wait in the middle of the room. Just past the lever door is a room filled with lots of Slithis tenticles - don't get too close or you will be drained and harmed. When both teams reach their lever doors, hit the levers and the two teams will merge in the Tenticle room. Mages should use walls to quickly clear. Once the tenticles are down, head southeast into another crystal room. Again, mages and archers should clear while melees stay back. Once the crystals are down, you will find two killable doors. Destroy one and then follow the corridor behind it to the boss's room. The boss is a huge Fire Elemental who is standing in the middle of a big pool of lava. There is a small island in the middle of the lava - have all your ranged characters move to that island as soon as they can. Mages should use walls, especially Tusker Fists if they have it. Melees should clear the other Fire Elementals from the lava pit, being careful of their health. When the Guardian dies, have everyone loot a title token from his corpse, then head back to the little island. Have them use the Dark Monolith NPC there to pick up their own little version. You must have picked up a title token to be flagged to pick up the Monolith, so you may need to kill the big guy more than once. Once everyone has both their title token and the Monolith, recall out.
Step 3: Rewards. The Dark Monolith is a housing item that casts 4 +3 attribute buffs (Endurance, Quickness, Focus, Self) that stack with regular buffs and Cantrips (but not the Font of Jojii, unfortunately). There isn't a quest flag associated with this item unlike the Font, so everyone may use it. As the title token suggests, take it to Ayan and give it to Ulgrim for your title. If you don't want the Font, you may give it to Ulgrim too and he will give you a few million XP.
