The Overlord's Chest used to be *the* place to get good equipment. Times have changed, but the chest still spawns very good items from time to time. It also spawns fabled 'Overlord Cheese'.
The quest itself can be short or long, depending on how hard you want to work. There are a series of keys that you need to open the door to the Overlord's Fortress, but a good lockpicker can pick the lock and practically any melee character can easily jump over the walls. The portal to the Overlord's dungeon is also tieable, so even if you can't jump over the wall or open the door, you can tie the portal from outside the fortress and then recall inside. Because it's so unnecessary to do, I'm not even going to bother including the key walkthrough. If you really want to do it, check out Maggie's guide to the quest.
Step 1: Getting Inside. The Fortress is located pretty far from anything, so you'll have to do some running. You can either start in Fort Tethana or you can use the Black Spawn Den portal device until you land in the north Dires BSD. Either way, you will need to run to 12.4N, 73.7W. You might as well buff here. You will be fighting Tumeroks, Virindi, and a smattering of other monsters. Fire weapons will likely work best here. Protect against everything. Characters without melee defense should bane against physical damage. When you get close, you will see a large fort on the landscape. As I mentioned, you can pick the main gate lock, jump over the walls and then open the gate for your friends with lower jump, or you can run to the NE portion of the wall and tie to the portal then recall inside. All methods are fairly easy, but the Portal Tie method is probably the easiest, as you avoid fighting anything inside the Fort.
Step 2: Tumerok Fortress. The drop coming in is hot, so be ready as soon as you appear. The dungeon itself is large and a bit confusing. Fortunately, you can bypass practically the whole thing. You will start in a large open area surrounded on both sides by galleries above you. Make your way through the galleries until you find a path leading down on the left side. At the bottom of the staircase, turn around and you will see a passage leading to the east. Head that way and you will climb up another staircase up to the gallery level. Now jump across to the west and go as far west as you can. You will find a passage on the north wall of the gallery that quickly leads to a T intersection. Turn left and head down a ramp. You will see a small room off to the right - head in it and you will see several chests. The west chest on the north wall has a key in it. Make sure to grab it! Now head back out of the room and continue to the west to another T intersection. Turn right and head back up a ramp. Take your first left and you will be stopped by a locked door. Pick this one and another immediately after it, then head into a large open room. Kill the monsters and then head to the south wall. There is a false wall in the middle, so run around until you go through it. Head down a series of ramps and you will come to a locked door. Use your key here and you will enter another large room. Kill the spawn and head north, where you will find a smaller room and the Overlord himself, protected by a few Virindi. Kill the Overlord and he will drop his sword and a key. The key opens a chest in the small room just ahead. Try not to stay in that room very long, as there are crystals that drain your health and mana in there. The Overlord spawns fairly slowly, so it may be a while before everyone in your group gets
