Rebel Quest Series
Throne of Destiny allows you to make a character-shaping decision - should you ally yourself with the powerful yet ruthless King Varicci II of Viamont or should you side with his enemies, Queen Elysa, the remnants of the Duke of Bellenesse's rebellion in Silyun, and the Whispering Blade? The King's enemies don't always see eye-to-eye on everything, but they firmly stand against Varicci's dangerous imperialist plans.
Preparation:
To join the Silyun Rebels, you must complete three quests. All of them are fairly low-level and easy, so even new players should be able to choose a faction. You will need to visit Silyun repeatedly, so it would be a good idea to pick up several Silyun portal gems or tie to the Silyun portal outside of Sanamar (76.6N, 58.7W). If you prefer to buy the gems, check the west part of Sanamar for a Viamontian Knight inside a house. If you trade him a V note, he will give you a portal gem. You will be fighing mostly Eaters and Viamontians on this quest, with a few Fiuns mixed in for good measure. Slashing and Fire weapons are your best bet. As these quests are intended for low level characters, high level people won't need to buff extensively. Lower level characters should bane against physical and acid damage and protect against all damage types.
Quest 1, Eleonora's Heart:
Difficulty: 10+ to survive, 20+ to solo
Level Restriction: None
Timer: One Time Only
Can be Solo'd? Yes, Lockpick helpful but not necessary
Rewards: Friend of Silyun Title, 20K XP, and promotion among the Rebels
Step 1: Preparation. Begin your quest in Silyun by talking to the Grandmother of Silyun, who lives upstairs in a building at roughly 87.4N, 70.5W. She will ask you to recover Eleonora's Heart from the Viamontian Torture Chamber in Sanamar. Head to Sanamar and run through town to the Royal Hall. You will find the Torture Chamber portal behind the hall but inside the fortified wall at 69.6N 62.6W.
Step 2: Viamontian Torture Chamber. The Torture Chamber is rather confusing and it's fairly easy to get lost. If you happen to have lockpick, you can make your way through the dungeon by hugging the right wall, so long as you ignore all of the small cells found along the cellblocks. If you don't have lockpick, you will have to stray a bit to find a key. Follow the right wall as you make your way down past two cell blocks. At the far end of the second one, you will go down a staircase and find yourself in a small room with a door to the south and an open passage into another small room straight in front of you. Go into that second room and follow the right wall. After you pass through a larger room, you will reach a four-way intersection. Continue along the right wall and open the door in front of you. Scan the floor for a key. Pick it up and then continue to the south. Ultimately, you will reach a locked door barring your path. Use your key and you will find yourself in the torture cells. Scan with [ and ] to find Eleonora's Heart on a pedestal, which should be south of you. Once you have the heart, take it back to the Grandmother of Silyun.
Step 3: Rewards. Hand in Eleonora's Heart for your rewards. You will receive a Friend of Silyun title token and 20,000 XP for your trouble. You will also be able to continue on and try the second of the three quests.
Quest 2, Knights of Karlun:
Difficulty: Minimum to survive, 50+ to solo (easier for melees)
Level Restriction: 40+
Timer: One Time Only
Can be Solo'd? Yes
Rewards: Champion of Silyun Title, Breastplate of Karlun, and promotion
among the Rebels
Step 1: Preparation. After you complete Quest 1, greet the Grandmother a second time and she will ask you to infiltrate the Knights of Karlun, an independent faction of the Viamontians, and recover a relic they possess. From Silyun, run ENE toward a rocky outcrop where the Knights' castle is. The portal is on the east slope of the plateau, but you will need to run around the north side to reach it. The portal is located at 89.0N, 67.6W. You will need to prove your worth to the Knights to steal the ring back, and that will require you to run several errands for them.
Step 2: Eater Pit. Once inside the castle perimeter, talk to Sir Ginazio. He will ask you to recover his sword from the Eater Pit, a dungeon located nearby at 88.8N 72.6W. The dungeon itself isn't particularly complicated and hugging the right wall will get you through in short order. As the name suggests, the dungeon is full of Eaters, but fortunately they are only low-level Famished Eaters. If you followed the right wall religiously, you will come to the portal at the very end before you find the boss Eater, the Sword Eater. Once you find the portal, turn around and follow the new right wall into an open chamber. The Sword Eater spawns here. It's possible that killing his friends will lure him out before you reach the end, so watch what you kill. Once you find and kill the Sword Eater, check its corpse for Sir Ginazio's Sword. It looks like junk, so be careful not to overlook it. Once you have the sword, you will need to head back to the Knights' castle. Either hit the exit portal and run back. When you get back, give Sir Ginazio his sword. He won't admit you just yet, unfortunately.
Step 3: Heart of Madness. Your second errand for Sir Ginazio is to find Sir Coretto, who went missing after he set out to explore the Heart of Madness dungeon. That dungeon is located south of the castle, at 84.8N, 68.6W. This second dungeon is a bit more complicated than the Eater Pit, but it's nothing you won't be able to solve easily. You'll be fighting Fiuns in this dungeon, so break out your fire weapons. Hugging the left wall should be sufficient to get you through most of the dungeon. The third large room you reach has a ramp in the middle of the room leading up into a small room with a lever in it - hit it, jump down, and look for the now-opened lever door on the east wall. Keep on the left wall from here on and you will Sir Coretto in a small room. Greet him and he will tell you that he has discovered a terrible secret and ask you to destroy him. Kill him and loot his will from his corpse. Head out the exit portal nearby and return to the castle once more. Give Sir Ginazio the will and he will agree to let you meet with the Knights' leader, Sir Belfelor. He will also give you a Breastplate of Karlun. Head into the Halls of Karlun portal nearby.
Step 4: Halls of Karlun. This dungeon is very straightforward - just run straight ahead and you will find Sir Belfelor standing at the far end. Greet him and he will tell you he will never give you the Ring of Karlun, nor will he attack you outright. That means you will have to start the fight and kill him and all the other Knights in the dungeon. None of the guards are particularly strong or dangerous, but you will have to fight pretty much all of them at the same time. When they are dead, loot the Ring of Karlun from Belfelor's corpse.
Step 5: Rewards. Return the ring to the Grandmother of Silyun and she will reward you with a Champion of Silyun title token. You will also be up for the final Silyun quest.
Quest 3, Grandmother's Revenge.
Difficulty: Minimum to survive, 50+ to solo (easier for melees)
Level Restriction: 40+
Timer: One Time Only
Can be Solo'd? Yes
Rewards: Hero of Silyun Title,
Grandmother's Medallion, 360,000 XP
Step 1: Preparation. Talk to the Grandmother once more and she will ask you to avenge the death of her favorite grandson, who was killed by an Eater. She will ask you to track down this particular Eater, destroy it, and bring back its jaw as proof of your accomplishment. Buff up if you need to - slash weapon, physical and acid banes, all protects - and head to the Marauder's Lair at 83.9N 66.4W.
Step 2: Marauder's Lair. This final dungeon is a bit mazey and although it isn't particularly dangerous, it is the hardest of the dungeons so far. Once you enter the dungeon, hug the left wall, killing as you go. This route may not be the most direct, but it is the least confusing. When you find a downward ramp, go down it and switch from hugging the left wall to hugging the right wall. After making your way through several larger rooms, the style of the dungeon will change from a cave into a ruin. Look for gaps in the walls as you go - jump down whenever you have the chance. You will eventually reach a large room with ramps leaving upward. There is a pit just behind the platform atop the ramps - jump down and you will find the Marauder and a few of its friends. Finish them off and loot the Marauder's Jaw from its corpse. Once you have the jaw, return to Silyun.
Step 3: Rewards. Return the jaw to the Grandmother and she will give you your final reward - a Hero of Silyun title token, the Grandmother's Medallion, and 360,000 XP. Now that you have earned the trust of the Rebels, you may begin to work for the Whispering Blade when you reach the appropriate levels.
