Shedding Asheron's Protection is a dangerous thing to do, but it has some great benefits too!
Step 1: Preparation. This quest is dangerous in a totally different way than most quests. You will need to be a Player Killer to enter the dungeon and gather the rewards and that means you put yourself at risk of being killed and looted by another player. Minimize your risk by streamlining your quest route and keeping anything you don't want to lose at home. You will want to buy a Yanshi portal gem from a master mage or from a starter town. Hopefully you know Sanctuary Recall too - if not, buy an Ithaenc Wedding Invitation.
Step 2: Going Red. To complete this quest, you must be a Player Killer - fully red, not pink. That means you will need to find an Altar of Bael'Zharon. There are plenty of Altars around, but the easiest one to visit is probably in Accursed Halls. To get there, head to Baishi and buy some Sake from the Barkeep there. Now head to 53S 61E where you will find a tower and the Drunken Madman. Give him your Sake and he will summon a portal for you. Head in and you will find yourself inside the Walled Portals. There is a portal back to the Ridge Tower (don't take that) and a portal to Outside the Accursed Halls (take that one). Go in and you will appear in another pair of walled portals. Find Accursed Halls and enter. This dungeon is very easy, as your opposition will be very low level Banderlings. Buffing isn't necessary for the dungeon, but as soon as you go Red, you need to be prepared for the fight! Buff up fully in case you need to fight, but be ready to bug out. Accursed Halls itself is fairly difficult to navigate if you've never been there before. There aren't really any simple tips aside from remembering to keep going up. Refer to the map if you get lost. Once you find the Altar, use it to go Red and enjoy the animation. Now pop your Yanshi portal gem and get ready to run. You will be heading pretty much due East from the drop, heading toward 10.3S 50.3E. You'll be able to see the bunker here from some distance, as the ground is blackened nearby.
Step 3: Cells of the Black Book. Once you reach the Bunker, find Hassha, a Sclavus NPC. Greet him and he will flag you for entry into one of the four portals inside the bunker. It doesn't matter which you take, but if you are traveling in a group, be sure everyone goes in the same one. Be prepared to fight as soon as you drop, just in case there are other PKs in there. If not, you will have an easy time of this dungeon. There are only half a dozen or so Undead you will need to kill. Head straight ahead. The first reward you will pass is a Font of Stasis. Use it and you will gather a unit of Water of Stasis. There is no timer on this part, so grab as many Waters as you can use presently, but don't overburden yourself. The Waters (and the pages too!) are attuned, so there's no sense in stocking up if you can't use them. Once you have as many waters as you need, head up the ramp in front of you and take your first right. In the next large room you see will be a copy of the Black Book of Ash and Salt. Use it and you will take 10 pages. These pages are on a 13 day timer and are also attuned. If you aren't a melee character, there's not much point in grabbing these. When you have your rewards, it's time to leave.
Step 4: Return to Grace. It's time to turn back into a Non-Player Killer. Hopefully you have Sanctuary Recall (or at least bought the portal gem). Use whichever one you have and head to the basement of Ithaenc Cathedral. You will find two tombs here - Adja's on the right and Kelderam's on the left. Use Adja's Tomb to return to being white. Be careful though! If you killed another player, you will need to wait 3 ingame hours before you can return to being a NPK. If you do need to wait it out, go hide in your house and turn on the barrier.
Step 5: Rewards. The two rewards you've picked up are Waters of Stasis and Pages from the Black Book of Salt and Ash. The Waters permanently make a weapon unenchantable. These are only really useful if your weapon already casts all the spells you want, as making the weapon unenchantable will prevent you from buffing your weapon too. Don't be overzealous with the Water - you can permanently destroy a great weapon if you aren't careful. The other reward, the Pages, add a fully-stackable 10% bonus to attack modifier to any melee weapon (missile weapons and wands won't benefit). Like the Rage of Grael gems, these pages buff the weapon you're wielding at the time. As far as I can tell, you don't need to be Red to benefit from either of these rewards, so people who don't PK will still find them useful.
