Count Dardante of the Rossu Morta has finally awoken Grael, the legendary Shadow beast.  The Whispering Blade cannot allow Dardante to attempt to tap Grael's power or to be subverted by it, but Grael's exact location is a mystery.  If you help track down Grael, you will be richly rewarded from the Whispering Blade's coffers.

*Note!*  You must have completed many quests to be able to begin and complete this quest.  You must be a full-fledged member of the Whispering Blade by completing the Rebel Quest Series, Shade Iron Attack, Whispering Blade Chapterhouse, and the Dark Collusion quests.  Additionally, part of this quest takes place on Vissidal Isle, so you must have completed the Vissidal's Gatekeepers quest.  As with the other Whispering Blade quests, you cannot undo your decision to advance within the Whispering Blade.  Also note that this quest is another one-time-only quest.  That means you cannot help out friends going through the Altar Nest section.

Step 1:  Preparation.  You will begin this quest in the Whispering Blade Chapterhouse outside Ayan Baqur and you will need to return to the Chapterhouse a few times, so having a tie to Ayan would be prudent.  You will also need a ride to Vissidal Isle, so buying a portal gem to Vissidal would be convenient.  Failing that, a Subway tie will work.  When you are ready, look for Varlanna in the Chapterhouse.  He will tell you that in order to track Grael, you must bring back the heads of The White Spear, a Ruschk elder, and Vargol the Scion, a Mukkir leader, he will be able to divine Grael's movements.  Your first job is tracking The White Spear.

Step 2:  The White Spear's Cave.  Leave the Chapterhouse by taking the Ayan Portal in the East Wing and head northwest from town to the Eastwatch Portal, located at 59.6S 88.8W.  Head in and buff up.  You will be fighting one Ruschk and possibly some Uber Penguins, so buff a bludgeoning weapon if you have it.  Fire will work if you don't have bludge.  Bane and Protect against everything and be sure to buff your shield if you have one.  When you are done, head to the White Spear's cave, which is located at 93.8N, 40.1W.  When you arrive, size up the situation from a distance.  You should see several level 155 Uber Penguins and The White Spear himself inside his bunker.  If you are patient and stand in the right place, you can pull The White Spear out of his cave without having to fight the Penguins, but it will probably take a few attempts.  If you have a group, it's probably easiest for you to just kill the Penguins.  When The White Spear dies, loot its corpse and grab its head.  Everyone needs a head, but unfortunately The White Spear is on a fairly slow respawn timer.  When everyone has their head, return to Ayan and present the head to Varlanna.

Step 3:  Altar Nest.  To complete the tracking spell, Varlanna will also need the head of Vargol the Scion.  That means taking one of the nastiest runs around - through the heart of Vissidal Isle.  Pop your Vissidal gem or head to the Haliana Settlement portal out of Cragstone, then run south along the beach until you reach the Vissidal portal.  Now you need to run.  The dungeon itself is located in the highlands of the far eastern section of Vissidal, at 76N 69.3E.  The safest way to get there is probably to follow the southern coast as far as you can, staying in the water and away from as many spawns as you can.  You will need to cut across some of the densest spawns on Vissidal to get to the dungeon.  Use dispel gems liberally and try to pick your way through the spawns to avoid the biggest concentrations of Moarsmen.  Don't dawdle outside the dungeon - get in as quickly as you can!  Once inside, dispel whatever vulns you still have and get ready to fight Mukkirs.  Frost works well against these guys, so buff up that weapon.  Your buffs from killing The White Spear should still be up, so don't worry about those - this dungeon is quite short and very linear.  You will quickly reach a large room where all the Mukkirs live.  Fortunately, these are little Mukkirs and will go down quickly.  Vargol is a bit more challenging, but even he doesn't compare to the other Mukkirs you may have encountered so far.  Kill him and loot his head from his corpse.  Again, everyone will need one and he is on a fairly slow timer.  You should be safe to rebuff as needed, as the other Mukkirs spawn just as slowly.  When everyone has their head, recall back to Ayan.

Step 4:  Rewards.  Present the Head of the Scion to Varlanna and she will be able to complete her spell.  In recognition, she will present you with 29M XP and a Whispering Blade Chapterhouse Orb.  Using the spell the orb casts on yourself will teleport you into the Chapterhouse instantly!  No more need to get to Ayan and no more need to wield your Whispering Blade Ring!  She will also offer you a Red Runed Silveran Weapon.  Find the emblem of the weapon you want from the table next to her, pick it up, and present it to Eddred the Wolf, another NPC in the same room as Varlanna.  He will reward you with your weapon.  Each type is a resistance render (either piercing or slashing) and all but the wand also have Biting Strike and Crushing Blow properties.  Their damage and modifiers are comparable to a tinkered weapon (although not a well-tinkered weapon - the melee weapons look to be tinkered without using granite) and they self-buff with all the necessary spells.  Unlike the other Runed Weapons, these do not cast-on-strike, but they are still very good weapons.  Here are the wand and the axe for your inspection.
