June’s Story
June’s life has been quite unorthodox for an Elf. Although she was born in Feladan, she did not dwell there for long. After coming of age and serving her term in the Elvish military, June followed her calling and returned to the Arcanum. Although she studied under the pretense of becoming a mage, she was far more interested in learning for no other reason than acquiring more knowledge. She did learn a great deal about the creation and proper use of magic, but June’s attention often wandered away to more exotic subjects. Even in her study of magic, June always preferred the lesser-known and more creative spells to the commonly used spells of the average mage.
During her last year of study, June took an interest in the most ancient texts held in Feladan’s archives. Many of them were historical descriptions of what life was like long ago, when Elvish culture was a far cry from the life she knew. It became increasingly apparent to June’s instructors that she came to view the present Elvish government as a pale shadow of the past. The issue came to a head when she published a treatise promoting a return to the individuality of the past. She had no intention of leading an insurrection against anyone – instead she wanted the Elvish leadership to think about the costs of the order they so greatly desired – but the Elvish leadership in Feladan did not see her work that way. June felt compelled to leave and made her way to Tazoon.
June’s life in Tazoon was quite different from her time among her own people. She was exposed to all sorts of new ideas from the other free races living together and she incorporated many of their ideas into her own personal beliefs. Of all those ideas though, one legend in particular influenced her more than any other. An ancient dragon knowledgeable in old legends told June of a fellowship committed to defeat evil and protect anyone who could not protect himself. June pressed the dragon for more information, but all it could remember was a creed – one which June immediately swore to live her life by. From that day on, she actively sought out others who believed in the creed of that fellowship – the Paladins of Asheron.
By the time of the Age of Lamentations, June had met a good number of like-minded souls of all races and professions. As the threat of the Withered Aegis loomed large on the horizon, June and her friends banded together to fight back. They fought bravely against the undead hordes and held out long enough to allow Ryson Lightbringer to activate the artifact that wiped out the undead armies from the gates of Tazoon. After the battle, the group swore to stay together and fight against the evil just as their namesakes of legend had.
June considers herself to be a scholar who uses magic on the side, rather than a mage who writes her own spells. She prefers diffusing tense situations with reason and logic rather than sword or spell, but she recognizes that the Withered Aegis cannot be reasoned with. Furthermore, to June, the undead threat poses the greatest risk the free races could ever face. June’s issues with the Elvish obsession with order pale in comparison to the absolute control the undead represent. Even if the Withered Aegis could be reasoned with, June would not – she views them as a sacrilege that must be purged completely from the world. Should the undead be eradicated within her lifetime, June would more than likely put down the stave and return to her desk to resume her efforts to change Elvish culture.
