Housing

Housing in AC is more than just owning a nice-looking building.  More than anything else, your home is a safe place to store items.  Each dwelling comes with at least 1 chest (2 for villas and 5 for mansions) where you can store up to 50 items.  You can designate who (if anyone) can open your chest so that you can securely transfer items from one character to another.  Your home acts like a second lifestone, in that you can recall back to it using the /house recall command.  If you live in a wilder part of Osteth, you can recall home and find good hunting right outside your door!  Your home can also be customized.  Depending on the size of your dwelling, you will have a number of hooks on which you can hang prized possessions.

There are four types of homes in AC - apartments, cottages, villas, and mansions.  Apartments are single rooms within larger apartment complexes.  Portals to these complexes can be found in pretty much every city in Dereth.  Apartments have roughly 5 hooks for decorations.  Cottages are free-standing homes with two rooms and a basement.  Cottages are mostly found in small named settlements scattered throughout the countryside of Osteth.  You can reach most of these settlements via Settlement Portals, again in most of the major towns in Dereth.  Some cottages are alone and do not have any quick way to reach them.  Cottages have roughly 25 useable hooks for your decorations.  Villas are large two-story homes with several rooms in each floor, a small basement, and a private dungeon.  Villas come with two storage chests and roughly double the hooks that cottages have.  Like Cottages, some villas are in small communities with portals and some are not.  Mansions are very large buildings with several stories, a large basement, and a large private dungeon.  Only monarchs who have 50 or more levels and are allegiance rank 6 may purchase a mansion, which is just the same, since Mansions are exceedingly expensive to buy and maintain.  Mansions come with 5 storage chests and more than enough hooks.

Buying a home requires several things of you.  Every property requires you to pay cash and at least one writ of refuge.  Writs are special items that can be earned by giving special trophies to Agents of the Arcanum.  At the moment, Pyreal Ingots, Quality Pyreal Ingots, Niffis Pearls, Diamond Powder, and several quest items are worth writs.  Apartments cost 100,000 pyreals and one writ to purchase.  All other buildings require at least one special trophy item.  Cottages cost 300,000 pyreals, one writ, and one trophy from the cottage list below - each cottage or villa has a different trophy requirement, so you'll have to check out the property you want to buy.  Villas cost 2 million pyreal, 5 writs, and one trophy from the villa list.  Mansions cost 10 million pyreal, 20 writs, 20 golden gromnies, 15 lucky golden letters, 7 idol gems, and two dread mattekar paws.

After you own your property, you will have to pay upkeep or you will lose it!  Apartments cost 10,000 pyreals every 3 months, Cottages cost 30,000 pyreals every month, Villas cost 100,000 pyreals and two writs monthly, and mansions cost 1 million pyreal and 10 writs monthly.  You have a month grace period if you fail to pay your rent, but after that month, you will lose your home and everything in your chest and on hooks. 

You can change who is allowed into your home and who can use your chest!  By default, everyone on your account will be allowed in your home and will be able to use the chest.  Add people to your guest list by typing /house guest add <name> and remove them with /house guest remove <name>.  Storage works the same way, but use 'storage' instead of 'guest'.  You can open your home to your monarchy with /house guest add allegiance.  Open your home to everyone with /house open.
