Questing
Questing is one of the cornerstones of Asheron's Call. There are well over 100 quests to do, ranging from starter quests to quests for players over level 100. Some have experience rewards, some have item rewards, and some have little or no reward at all, but they are a great way to spend your time! Before you go, you should take the time to learn how to be a good follower and a good leader. Here are two great guides to joining and leading a quest, used with permission of the author, David the Bear of the Saints of Solclaim:
"How To Participate in a Quest"
1. Show up early. By early I mean at least 10
minutes before the quest is scheduled to start. I know this is not always
possible, but if your able too, show up early.
2. Be prepared. Be sure to have gotten your supplies BEFORE
the quest starts.. This includes, tapers, mana
charges, plats and any other supplies
you might need.
3. Be sure to listen to the leader. The leader is the person who is leading the
quest. They will tell you when to buff up, what buffs are needed, what banes,
best type of weapon to use, plus any other pertinent information that you will
need on the quest.
4. Buffs: If you cannot buff yourself, you need to make PRIOR
arrangements for buffs. This does not mean showing up at the quest and expecting
the other people to buff you.
5. Do not send the leader a bunch of tells, prior to the quest asking what buffs
are needed, what type of weapon, length of quest etc. The leader will more then
likely be getting tells from other people asking him the same questions.
6. Do not run ahead. This is very important and cannot be stressed enough. Even
if you know the quest backwards and forwards and run it 3 times a week for your
own clan, show the leader some respect and do not run ahead. Also, do not go
pulling on levers, pushing buttons UNLESS YOU
ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO SO. Many a quest has been ruined by peeps talking to
statues, and getting the entire fellow killed.
7. Looting: As a general rule looting is not a good idea while on a quest,
unless you are looting a specific item needed for the quest or if the leader
permits it.
8. Dying. Expect to die on a quest. It does and will happen. When it does,
permit someone ASAP to loot your body. If
you are going to try to get back to the quest dungeon, ask if that is permissible.
Some quests do not allow you to return, or the quest party may be too deep in
the dungeon.
9. Lag outs: This happens a lot, especially for peeps who are on dial-up. When a
person lags out, you may expect the leader to have everyone stop right away and
wait for the person to return. How long you wait is up the leader. It is usually
2-5 minutes.
10. Making suggestions: If you know the quest you are going on, but you are not
the leader, let the leader do their best to lead it. If you see the leader is
struggling and needs some help, kindly offer a suggestion as to a course of
action to take, or a direction to go in.
11. Getting the final item. Some quests require everyone to loot a particular
item. Usually it is from the lowest level to the highest. If there is a line, be
courteous to your fellow questors and don't cut in the line. Also, you may need
to stay to help kill the respawn.
12. Time. Most quests take about an hour or less to complete. However, sometimes
they can take longer if someone dies or lags out. If you have a time issue, then
you may not need to go.
13. Help each other out. If you see someone that needs help with something,
kindly help them out. And the last item is:
HAVE FUN!!!! THIS IS A GAME!!!
"So You Want to Lead a Quest"
(1) Be prepared. By this I mean, know the
quest to the best of your ability. Know what you are fighting (monster wise),
what protects are needed, what banes will be needed, type of weapon. Also,
length of quest is important as well.
(2) Know the route: How are you going to get to where you start the quest. Most
of the time, having a Sub tie is sufficient, but there are some quests where a
closer portal is better to have.
(3) Let the group know that this is your first time running this quest. When the
group knows UPFRONT that you are new to questing they generally tend to be
forgiving of any mistakes. Let them know that you will be referring to a map so
if you stop for a minute or so, not to worry.
(4) Ask for help if it is needed. This is YOUR quest that you are running,
however, that does not mean you can't ask for help. Something like, Hmm, is it
left or right from here. Always accept helpful comments. Never think that you
know it all, because you don't
(5) Let everyone know before you start what is going on. If there are special instructions
that need to be given out, then give them out while peeps are buffing. Also,
while you are buffing, let people know what your policy is on deaths,
disconnects etc. They will happen.
(6) Remember, you are the leader. Yea, there may be some peeps who are more
experienced at running quests, but so what? Don't let anyone take over a quest.
This is YOUR quest, thus you are the leader. As point #4 says, ask for help if
it is needed, but don't let some take over entirely.
(7) Although it is annoying, talk in CAPS SO PEEPS CAN DISTINGUISH BETWEEN WHAT
YOU ARE SAYING AND what others are saying.
(8 ) Allow time for peeps to ask questions before you start.
(9) When giving out directions to an object, or where to go, do not use terms,
such as, HERE, or THIS WAY etc. People may not know where to go and it is very
confusing. Give directions to go, ex: go west, or item is to the SE.
(10) Above all, HAVE FUN This is a game.
